QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
What does bio-based mean?
Bio-based products are made, in whole or in part, from renewable biological materials like plants. At DGP, this means using materials that are grown and regenerated annually — not extracted from the ground. We use the USDA ASTM D6866 standard to define and verify bio-based content.
Is biodegradable the same as bio-based?
No. Bio-based refers to where a product comes from (its origin). Biodegradable refers to how a product breaks down at the end of its life. Biodegradability is measured by standards like ASTM D5864 and OECD 301B, which define how materials break down into simpler compounds like water and carbon dioxide.
Isn’t petroleum way better for lubricants compared to bio-based?
In most cases, no. Petroleum is widely used because it’s cheap and abundant — not because it performs better. At DGP, we formulate with plant-based oils to outperform petroleum across key performance metrics, including friction, wear, load, thermal stability, and overall durability. They often deliver:
- Higher viscosity index (2–5x)
- Better film strength
- Lower friction
- Improved wear protection
- Cleaner operation
Will switching to DGP affect my equipment warranty?
No. DGP lubricants meet or exceed industry standards and OEM requirements and are fully compatible with equipment when used as directed. Under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, manufacturers cannot void warranties simply for using a different brand of lubricant. If you encounter this claim, contact us at info@dgpworks.com and we’ll help address it.
Why is DGP different than other bio-based products I’ve seen?
Most bio-based products start with sustainability and compromise on performance. We do the opposite. DGP is built on a performance-first standard — our products are engineered to outperform petroleum while remaining fully compatible with existing equipment and workflows.
The result: better performance, cleaner operation, and real-world results — without trade-offs.
Why do the products cost more?
Petroleum is the cheapest and most available feedstock in the world. GII and GIII base oils that cost between $3-$5/gallon. In some cases, our food grade bio-based feedstock cost $7-$28/gallon. We choose higher-quality, plant-based materials that cost more because they perform better. Despite this, DGP products are often within 10–30% of conventional lubricants, and price competitive with full synthetics.
And because DGP products reduce wear and extend equipment life, the total cost of ownership is often lower
Why would I choose DGP over a bigger OEM brand that also makes my equipment?
OEMs do not make their own lubricants in most cases. They outsource them to large tollers that produce similar mass-market formulas for hundreds of customers, then sell them under the equipment brand name. This is normal, but in most cases, customers end up overpaying for the brand and getting average in-the-bottle performance.
Where can I find your products?
Our products can be purchased online on our website or at retailers throughout the country like Do It Best Hardware, True Value Hardware, Amazon, Walmart.com, as well as other local independent retailers. Our website is always the best starting point to find DGP products if want to order by the case. For individual bottles, they can be purchased on Amazon or local retail store. Our goal is to serve 95% of the country in 1-3 days with our logistics infrastructure.
Are you looking for dealers and or brand ambassadors?
Yes, but selectively. We partner with individuals and businesses who align with our mission and understand the value of performance-driven, bio-based products. For inquiries, contact info@dgpworks.com.
How are DGP products made?
All DGP products are 100% made in the USA. We partner with individuals and businesses who align with our mission. Soybeans from American farmers are converted into food grade base oils and we combine them with advanced chemistries and processes to formulate our lubricants.
DGP is creating a Seed-to-Steel value chain that connects American farmers with American industry. Every purchase of a DGP product helps strengthen domestic supply chains and supports American agriculture.
Does DGP own the factory?
No, we do not currently own a production facility. We work closely with a couple of specialty US manufacturers that use our proprietary formulations to produce our portfolio of bio-based lubricants,
